Big Bend (Feb 10)
« on: March 04, 2010, 08:07:26 AM »

Went to Big Bend National Park Feb 4-7. Planned to hike Telephone Canyon trail, but had to alter my plans . Ended up driving the Old Ore road, River road between Lagitas and Redford Texas, and hiked the Mules Ears Peak trail.

Nice set of pictures, I really appreciate the time taken to do the captions.  I see you walked my namesake trail.  Nothing like the spring and the view over the Smoky Creek drainage.  I am also glad you walked the Trap spring drainage, I think it is a gem.

Sorry you didn't do the Telephone canyon trail it is definitely a different side of the park.

Nice pix.  Thanks for sharing.

I see that the road side campsites in the State Park have as many amenities--zero--as the back country sites in the National Park.  That's not the case at the interior backcountry sites in the State Park--those have tables and fire grates.

Why were you not able to hikeTelephone Canyon?  Just curious.
Wake me when it's time to go.

Now I'm not saying you have to, :icon_lol:, but you could post some pics to gallery section on this board too so that those of us that have photo sharing sites blocked on their work computer can see them too. Sometimes I need a West Texas fix during working hours.

O/T:  Some of the site blocks by employers really make no sense.  At my office, the dingbats block sites like hotmail and gmail, but leave open sites like facebook and youtube!  No logic whatsoever.

The roadside camp sites that I stayed in were in the National Park.

I was at the Telephone Canyon trailhead with my backpack ready to go.  At the last minute I was putting my phone away and noticed I had a voice mail.  I get about one phone call a month so when I receive a voice mail it's probably important, it was.  I didn't want to be out of cell phone range so I elected to alter the trip.  Later in the day I got a call that all was ok, but by that time it was to late to go back and start.

Thanks to all for the pictures compliments

I work in IT at a university and we don't block anything - so I'm able to get my "West Texas fix" at lunch time.  I'll see what I can do tonight, the photos are on my laptop at home.
