You may start a bad habit around here. I've already starting plotting on how to convince the old lady that we need a Suzuki DR 650 around the house for just in case. Or a BMW 800 GS if I score on a high dollar scratchoff.

Sounds like a plan to me!

There was a guy at a rally in Maine a couple of years ago who drove a big BMW GS with a sidecar.  On the sidecar, he carried his dirt bike!  It was a brilliant setup, in my opinion.

Heavier bikes are so much better on the slab, and lighter bikes are so much better on the gravel and such..

I took the liberty of swapping out all of your picture links for the "L" versions instead of the "XL" versions. They are all scaled down to a maximum of 600 pixels wide, but the "XL" versions were just big enough for both Firefox and Google Chrome to lock up on my crappy PC when trying to render the web page. I would've gone with "M", but there were a few of yours that were less than 600 pixels wide/high at that setting and I didn't have time to sort through all of them. As it is, your report should look identical, but it'll load faster. This has happened before with another member's picture-heavy trip report, so you're not alone. :icon_wink:

And yes, I do have a new PC in my near future... just haven't figured out how much I can afford and which one to buy...

Update: I let my occasionally obsessive nature get the best of me and went back and swapped out L with M for all the horizontal pics. Now I can actually scroll the page without Firefox hanging... still need a new PC, however...

I am surprised this report didn't take Vista Grande's server down.  I am sure it is the first 6 page thread where almost all the content was from the original poster.  It even scared Homero!   :icon_eek:

They're all hosted on smugmug.com (I pay for unlimited bandwidth), so the server load here should be minimal.

It can be kind of hard on browsers and systems with minimal RAM though...   :eusa_whistle:

New Year's Day..

The setting Blue Moon over Terlingua in color..

I don't think he had much interest in running out and jumping on that rock, like Kevin Costner did in Fandango...

It still intrigues me that Ed's looking straight into Mexico, just across that little stream of a river..

I stretched out and took a little nap on that big flat rock in the foreground..

Hey Guys!

Given that you have a Garmin 60 Csx, what are the coordinates for that spot (Dom shot) in particular. I'm trying to figure out what is the place or the owner of the ranch in the other side of the river, I cover that ground FYI.
Stay thirsty, my friends.

I will let you in on my dirtiest of dirty little secrets, but you must swear not to tell another soul.

I use the GPS as a speedometer on the bike, and as a trip-meter in the Jeep.

Occasionally I glance at it as a map reference, but not very often.

That shot is a couple hundred feet (at most) off the highway, and the other side of the river is Mexico.  There is a second DOM lightly carved in rock about 25 feet or so above the first, likely scrawled by someone who hadn't bothered to really look for the first.  A walk around the SE side of the mountain and minimal investigation and you will find both.

The "lightly carved" DOM is actually the original, while the more prominent one is the one used in the movie. See http://www.ultimatefandango.com/info/locations.htm#dom

Well, this is risky, but does DOM have a specific meaning?
