Big Bend June 2011
« on: January 22, 2012, 06:24:59 PM »
Well, I got a wild hair and decided to bring all 6 of the kiddoes to BB; take the 2 littlest (4 and 6) up Casa Grande, among other things.  Needless to say, we found out why June is the hottest month in BB!  In the Basin on our CG day, temp was 98 by 2 p.m. on its way up to 104.  104!

Sleeping in tents in this heat was absolutely miserable so we bailed for the relatively cool confines of Balmorhea, where it was 106, but had the springs.

Here's our target with the Friends of BB falcon:

Got up close with the bears eating heart of sotol:

The 4 y.o. happily coming down a very hot CG:

There were lots of Harvard Agave in bloom:

It's a whole lot cooler in there!

So, we're heading back prolly the weekend of Feb 18 to do the CG with the little ones.

Is Balmorhea affected by the drought?
