You might also consider checking out http://autostitch.net which was discussed here. It's a great tool for making panos.

AWESOME!

I was wondering how I was supposed top piece those together.  My camera had the fancy mode, I figured it was fancy and put the pics together for me. =P  Work has still been brutal, I'll try to get a report put together before Wednesday, when school starts.  :willynilly:

i was talking to one of the rangers over the weekend and they mentioned they had to go in and get several people off of the dodson trail over christmas and new years break, i wonder how they do that, on a horse or do they just carry their bag or something and let them walk out on their own....

Only the finest of service....they carry them, carry their pack, have sleeping bag turndown service in camp and put a mint on the pillow.

No doubt. But, part of the problem is that the level of service the NPS has trained their clientele to expect also undoubtedly causes at least a few of them to attempt things they'd probably never do in other 'less-serviced' areas. Knowing that someone is standing by to bail you out makes risk-taking somewhat of a game rather than the serious business it would be elsewhere.

Some folks are like Columbus....ready to sail into the unknown with the knowledge they are on their own; others take the full-service cruise ship.

I am amazed that both Ray52 and championbaum mentioned that they ran into rangers who checked their permit while on the OML. Maybe it was because it was over holiday weekends. When we did the Lajitas to Basin trip in Dec. we saw no rangers (saw almost no one) good thing too because we had left the permit in the car  :rolling:
temperatures exceed 100 degrees F
minimum 1 gallon water per person/day
no shade, no water

Mule Ears, I thought I was being approached by one at the end of my first day's hike when I got to the intersection of the Colima and Boot Canyon trails. A tall, uniformed man approached me and we talked for a few minutes about my hike up Blue Creek. It was getting dark and I needed to get moving so I asked him how far it was to my campsite at Juniper Canyon 1. I was very surprised when he answered that he didn't know. As I walked away from him a teenage boy appeared from the direction of the trailside toilet and I realized that I'd been talking to a Boy Scout leader :icon_redface:
Doesn't that Boy Scout leader know the motto of the Scouts? He should have been prepared to whip out some maps and show you just how far you had left to go!
