Moderator note:  this topic was split off from here.

I did the OML this past Nov (2006) with the intent of getting the South Rim as well. We passed on the Rim and I am regretting it now as my most recent planned  trip to the Rim was called off due to weather concerns.

Here is a link to my trip report:

Great report and pics!  Love the homemade stove.

P.S.  You might want to practice your pronunciation of Santa Elena. :)

Oops, looks like I need to work on my timing, as I split this thread off while he was busy posting to the old one.

Richard,
Thanks for the compliment on the stove.
I enjoy using that one. It was a fun little project.

There are 5 or 6 more detailed pics and descriptions
of it at the following link if you are interested:

Thanks again. :)

When I first saw the pic of your stove's stand, I thought you had used .22 cartridge shells!

Funny you would think that Richard, because that was the first item
I considered using, before settling on the Delrin inserts.
I think the .22 cartridge shell casings would work just fine :D

Lighter Fluid-

Would you mind re-posting your trip report, supply list, and pictures from your OML hike?

I'm planning my own excursion and would like as much input as possible.

Thanks.

Sorry about that BIBI FNG,
The newset version of my site is in the testing and troubleshooting stage currently
as you might have been able to tell.

Here is a link that will take you to the OLM trip report you referenced previously:
http://thehikersforum.com/backup_09-05-07/OuterLoopTrail_2006_template.html

If you have any other questions just PM me and I'll answer them if I can.

I hope it helps.
I'm jealous. I'm hoping to get out to BIBE very soon!
Have a great time and let me know how it goes.

Thanks.

I had read your report (and many others) a few times before although it was before we got serious about this particular hike.

We'll be sure to post a trip report (with pics).  It'll be a couple of months down the road so don't hold your breath.   :nailbitting:
