I did the OML this past Nov (2006) with the intent of getting the South Rim as well. We passed on the Rim and I am regretting it now as my most recent planned trip to the Rim was called off due to weather concerns. Here is a link to my trip report: http://www.thehikersforum.com/OuterLoopTrail_2006_template.htmlHere is a link to take you to my gearlist for the trip:http://www.thehikersforum.com/files/lighter_fluids_OuterLoop_SouthRim_gearlist.xls And here is a link to a photo album of the trip:http://thehikersforum.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=1725&g2_navId=x6d316ffeI hope it helps. Have a great time
Great report and pics! Love the homemade stove.P.S. You might want to practice your pronunciation of Santa Elena.
Richard,Thanks for the compliment on the stove.I enjoy using that one. It was a fun little project. There are 5 or 6 more detailed pics and descriptionsof it at the following link if you are interested:http://thehikersforum.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=2445&g2_navId=x6d316ffeThanks again.
When I first saw the pic of your stove's stand, I thought you had used .22 cartridge shells!
Thanks.I had read your report (and many others) a few times before although it was before we got serious about this particular hike. We'll be sure to post a trip report (with pics). It'll be a couple of months down the road so don't hold your breath.
